I have stayed at this park nearly every summer for the last 10 years. Our family loves the cleanliness of all the facilities, and for a private campground the relative spaciousness of the sites. The lake is refreshing and the boat dock and store well equipped and very convenient. What we dislike is the reservation system; it seems harder and harder every year to obtain any type of space let alone our favorite lakefront spots. This campground needs to get a clue and update their website for online reservations and/or at least phone reservations
This is a great family campground; however its been a while since I have stayed at a California State Beach Campground on a summer weekend. The bathrooms are really quite disgusting and my neighbors started drinking at 9:30am and they were loud and vulgar by 5:00pm. I love the large campsites; the closeness of the dunes and beach; within walking distance of the pier; and the generally quiet and family oriented atmosphere.
We stayed mid-week at this park and it was so quite. The staff is very helpful and they guide you to your site. The grounds are very well kept and the restrooms while older are clean. There are a lot of year around/seasonal residents at this park but the owners handle it in such a way that it's not a negative. Towards the weekend a large group of seniors came to celebrate an anniversary. We had a great time and would stay here again.
We had a very nice time at this campground. The spaces are level and surrounded by grass and trees; there are some premium sites near a pond. The trails are easy to walk with pleasant views; facilities very clean; too cold to swim but the pool and jacuzzi looked nice. Close to lots of wineries and Mother Lode activities. Would definitely camp here again !
Outstanding park ! The park has many pullthru sites; they are gravel and level, no tables or fire rings at sites. Bathrooms are cleaner than my home, heated with bath mats in the toilets and showers, piped in music also. Continental Breakfast included in rate; there is a central area with tables and bar-b-ques. Very friendly staff.
We made our reservations several months in advance to obtain one of the 15 sites with hook-ups. Sites vary in size, length, shady or sunny; beautiful setting with deer walking by every morning. The bathrooms are located throughout the campground with the showers and laundry a bit of a drive near the store; clean by National Park standards. Showers and Laundry are open 24 hours. We had several problems with rangers at this park; they seized our EMPTY cooler we left outside on our site during the day; almost got a citation when I went to pick it up; when they came by our site to review rules, (don't know why as this was before the cooler incident), the ranger had her hand on her gun the entire time. We are a couple in our 50's very middle class non-threatening. Would definitely return to Mesa Verde, (awesome park), but would stay at private campgrounds nearby.
Pros: plenty of grass and trees, breathtaking sunsets, large sites, nice walk to the beach, plenty of shells for kids, near Hearst Castle Cons: WINDY, WINDY, WINDY I have camped here twice and both times I had to spend several hours in my trailer because it was so windy
This park is now managed by San Luis Obispo County and has been renamed Coastal Dunes RV Park. The restrooms are in need of repair, the noise from Highway 1 and the trains can be unbearable. The pool is nice and clean, the sites have grass and while not huge are much better than Pismo Coast Village. This park really caters to senior citizens and and older families; with the exception of the highway and trains very quiet at night. The price is low for this area and last minute reservations are sometimes possible. However due to the noise I would not stay here again.
I have stayed at Campland on the Bay twice before and had a great time. This time it was unbearable; the campground was wall to wall kids, they were riding their bikes and skateboards EVERYWHERE, the pools and jacuzzi's were overrun with unsupervised children. The first night was so noisy we complained and they moved us to a "Bay View" site. While the first night was quiet the next night we had to listen to the "Best of the Bee Gee's" from 6pm - 9pm. The beach was filthy and littered with papers. The staff not does enforce the skateboarding rules and the quiet hours. We almost hit several children on bicycles and skateboards. We did enjoy the fireworks and the live band. We paid $75 per night to camp and had they charged us for the "Bay View" site we moved to it would have been $125 per night - But as earlier reviews have said "It's the only game in town"!
I see reviews on Pismo State Beach Oceano but not North Beach. If you are not an ATV fan or Party Animal but love the Central Coast; this is the park for you. My family and I have camped here more than 25 times over the last 15 years and we always have a great time. Sitting on the Dunes watching the sunset is always special; every winter we come to camp and watch the wintering monarch butterflies. My husband enjoys golf at the small 9 hole course nearby. No hook-ups and the restrooms are maintained by the park service; but the sites are very large, campers are quiet and family oriented. I have camped at Pismo SB Oceano but much prefer North Beach
